I’ve been told that seeing the Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly is a sign that Pawpaw trees are nearby. Sure enough, after a year of looking, I found my first stand of pawpaw trees. Glancing around, I soon spotted this lady flitting about.

Pileated Woodpecker…

This is the largest woodpecker in North America. Just about crow sized. This one is a male, as evidenced by the red mustache stripe from beak to throat. The name comes from the Latin word “pileatus”, which means “wearing a cap”.
