Also known as Purple passionflower, True passionflower, Wild apricot, and Wild passion vine. The Cherokee in Tennessee called it Ocoee, It’s the Tennessee state flower. This one’s kind of scraggly.

I found this photo when looking for wordpress bloggers writing about passionflower…unfortunately, I haven’t found very many!
Have you ever tried brewing an herbal tea from this plant? I tried it some time ago and I found it had a fairly potent relaxing effect. I just put together a page on passionflower which cites some science backing up some of the traditional medicinal uses of this herb.
I have yet to try the fruit of it, supposedly it is rather tasty, and does not have the same medicinal effects that the rest of the plant has.

Pretty! It looks like it has a lot of seeds though and not as much flesh…I’ve never seen the inside of one before, not even in a picture.
