The Hulah dam was constructed in the 1940’s by the Corps of Engineers as a flood control measure on the Caney river. Only a trickle of water is being released right now due to the big sumer drought of 2011.

The Pelicans are back for their yearly stopover on the way south. It takes a lot of effort to get these big things airborne.

Low water conditions have dried up what normally would be an ideal area for waders and shore birds. This is at the Northwest end of the lake.
