These ships are historically accurate reproductions of two of the three that Columbus used on his exploration voyage in 1492. They were built using traditional methods (no power tools) and have been touring to many locations, serving as floating museums. The groups of school children in the photo are typical of the visiting groups. It is amazing how small these ships actually are. I can’t imagine spending months in the Atlantic on one of these 500+ years ago. The Nina is the smaller one in the front. These ships are typical of the Caravel class of boat that was popular in that time period.
